Q. Is North Bay Haven a Bay District School public school? A. Bay Haven and North Bay Haven are both public, charter schools under the control of the Bay Haven Board of Directors as Bay Haven Charter, Inc. Bay Haven and North Bay Haven serve the students of Bay County, but are doing so as public charter schools. |

Q. What is going to happen to the Bay Haven facility now that North Bay Haven has been opened? A. Bay Haven isn't closing one school to open another. Bay Haven will continue to operate as it currently is, at full capacity. The new school, North Bay Haven, is being opened to help accommodate the high demand for grades K-8, as evidenced by the over 900 student wait list that Bay Haven has carried for a number of years. The high school is being started after many years of demand and requests for one. |

Q. What happens if my child does not get into North Bay Haven this year? A. Submit an application for your child in the Bay Haven student application system. You must submit a separate student application for a student to be in the enrollment lottery for North Bay Haven and Bay Haven. |

Q. If I have one child at Bay Haven and one child at North Bay Haven, will my family have to do the required 20 volunteer hours at each schools? A. In this case, you will have to do a minimum of 20 volunteer hours total, but evenly divided across the two schools/campuses. For example, you should do approximately 10 volunteer hours at BHCA and another 10 volunteer hours at NBHCA. |

Q. When I submitted my application for my student, I received a number with my confirmation. Does this number mean anything in terms of our priority for getting in? A. After registering for admission, a confirmation number is issued which lets you know your submission was received in our system. It is advisable to print this confirmation and retain for your records. However, the number you receive doesn't indicate anything about your chances or odds for being selected in the lottery. All who apply for admission by the cut-off date have equal chance in the lottery. |

Q. Will the rules for behavior and code of conduct be the same as Bay Haven? A. All policies for K-8 students' dress code and behavioral expectations will be a replication of the Bay Haven policies in these areas. The policies for the 9-12 students will be similar in some areas, but there will be some differences for high school students where appropriate. Examples of these differences are allowing expanded outerwear options for high school students and allowing denim for high school students. |

Q. What bus transportation will be available for students at NBH? A. Bus transportation will be available for NBH students. Please contact the school for details. |

Q. Will NBH use student planners? A. NBH will replicate the Bay Haven student planner system for students in grade K-8. High School students will have be encouraged to use student planners, but this will not be required unless a student's performance indicates a need. |

Q. Will there be an ITV program at NBH? A. Central Baptist Church does not have an ITV system; however, we are exploring the feasibility of a program that can be broadcast periodically via the web/podcasting. |

Q. I have heard that NBH will be a technology-rich school, what does that mean exactly? A. NBH will have classrooms equipped with technology, including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, digital projectors, and computers for student use. Mobile laptop carts will be available for teachers use in grades K-8, while in the high school we are striving for 1:1 computing for students. This might mean each student would have access to a laptop/netbook for use during day. Lease/purchase agreements are being investigated to allow for parents to enter into a multi-year payment plan to purchase their student's laptop/netbook for ownership. Students may be able to bring their own laptop/netbook if they already own these devices. |

Q. Can students wear their Bay Haven uniforms to North Bay Haven if they transfer schools? A. Students will be able to wear the Bay Haven uniform bottoms (shorts, pants, Capri, skorts, jumpers) at North Bay Haven. However, students would need to purchase the North Bay Haven uniform shirts/outerwear, as they will have the North Bay Haven logo on them, which will be different from the Bay Haven logo design. |

Q. What will the lunch options be at North Bay Haven? A. A full school breakfast and lunch program will be provided, using our in-house staff and the kitchen on-site. Additional options for high school students are being researched, such as fast-food choices that students could purchase a la carte. |

Q. Will North Bay Haven students be required to participate in Science Fair and History Fair? A. The North Bay Haven History Fair and Science Fair program/expectations will be the same for the students in grades 6-8 as exists for Bay Haven 6th-8th graders. For the 9-12 program, certain classes may require a history fair or science fair project rather than having this required for all students. However, project-based learning will be a strong component of the high school program, as it is an effective research-based assessment strategy. |

Q. Will NBH have lockers for students' use? A. Lockers will definitely be used for middle and high school students once the permanent facility is available. At the Central Baptist church facility, we are still exploring locker options, including other options for storing students' books if lockers aren't feasible. |

Q. I want to make sure that [my child] is going to be offered the same advanced classes [as Mosley] and I had heard that none of the kids would be separated into advanced classes but they would be in the same classes and I really do not envision how that will work? A. North Bay Haven High School will offer advanced classes for 9th grade and beyond. In math, for example, students will be placed according to readiness into any class from Algebra IA to Algebra II. Advanced classes will also be offered in all other core areas (English, Science and Social Studies). Not all students will meet the entrance requirements to be placed in advanced classes. |

Q. Will high school students be able to get one year of college under their belt by 12th grade if they select those courses and work hard? A. North Bay Haven High School will have an advanced academic studies major that will offer Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment coursework. Throughout the course of high school, students would have the opportunity to take enough Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses to have a minimum of one year of college credit as they graduate from high school. |

Q. What will be the opportunities for socializing (other than sports)? A. North Bay Haven will offer many extracurricular clubs and activities. Some of those include: service clubs (Key, Anchor, etc), honor societies, student government, special interest clubs (FCS, Drama, Newspaper, etc.). Students will have many opportunities for involvement! In fact, because the enrollment won't be as large as other high schools, students will have a greater chance to be a club leader or a student government officer! |

Q. As you can see all of the parents are stressing - giving a curve ball in the middle of the process (which is a good thing to have a good choice) - many of us just want to make the right choice - any information you can give to tell me why I should choose NBHCA High School over MAPPS would be GREAT! A. North Bay Haven will offer a comprehensive high school experience in a smaller, more personalized setting. While still providing a high quality educational program with high expectations, students at NBHCA High School will have more opportunities to be meaningfully involved in activities, participate in athletic teams and be in a school where the expectations are high for ALL students. Bay Haven is known for its high expectations for learning and behavior for all students; similarly, the NBH High School will have those same high expectations which will provide a smooth transition for 9th students into high school. |

Q. Will North Bay Haven High School offer an IB program? A. North Bay Haven High School will not offer an IB program, since it is available at Rutherford. NBH High School plans to offer an advanced academic studies major that will offer Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment coursework. Throughout the course of high school, students would have the opportunity to take enough Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses to have a minimum of one year of college credit as they graduate from high school. |

Q. Is North Bay Haven High School a career/vocational/technical school? A. No. NBH High School is a comprehensive high school offering a variety of options for students. The curriculum will be college preparatory; the career majors will offer students options for career study and experiences during high school. Offering career majors does not mean a school is a vocational school. The career majors will provide students the opportunity to leave high school prepared to go down multiple paths: 1. College / University Path2. Career / Technical Training Program 3. Workforce Entry |

Q. If a student is in 8th grade at Bay Haven or North Bay Haven, do they have to apply for the lottery for 9th grade?? A. Yes, Bay Haven and North Bay Haven students need to apply for 9th grade at NBH High School. |

Q. What types of outerwear can high school students wear? A. High school students will be permitted to wear school approved NBHCA hoodies and NBHCA athletic jackets, in addition to the approved outerwear available from the uniform suppliers. |

Q. What will the rules be for high school students driving to school? A. Any age eligible student will be permitted to drive to school and be issued a parking permit, pending the availability of parking and meeting criteria for parking privileges. Criteria for parking privilege will be based on GPA, attendance and discipline. |

Q. Will NBH have a color guard and majorettes? A. NBH will have both color guard and majorettes if there is enough student interest in these programs and a sponsor can be secured. |

Q. Do you have an advanced academic program? A. Yes, it is called SAIL - Studies in Advanced & Innovative Learning. It is an advanced academic program built with Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment offerings. SAIL will provide enough coursework for students to have the opportunity to earn enough college credits equivalent to a freshman year in college. Requirements for entry are a 3.0 GPA and scores of “3” or better on 8th grade FCAT for reading and math. Any student who meets this criteria and is offered enrollment for NBH will be accepted into SAIL. |

Q. What are your career academy programs? A. We have 4 career academy programs at NBH. These are optional programs that student may elect to take. Students would take the courses in an academy as part of their elective courses. They are: |

Q. What extracurricular programs are offered at NBH High School? A. Students have the opportunity to join a variety of clubs, interest groups and organizations. These include: |

Q. What are the uniform requirements of your school for high school students? A. High school students wear either jeans or uniform shorts/pants/skorts in khaki or navy purchased from Zoghby’s or Lands End. Jeans can be from any store. Students have selected days of the week to wear school approved t-shirts from clubs, teams, etc they are involved with. Other days, students wear the school uniform polo, which must be purchased from Zoghby’s or Lands End. There are several jacket options for students, all of which must be purchased from Zoghby’s or Lands End. The high school jacket options are expanded compared to our approved jackets for our elementary and middle school program. Students may also wear school approved hoodies/sweatshirts from clubs, teams, etc. they are involved with. |

Q. What is the cost for the iPad? A. iPad fee is $17 month or $150/year. There is a financial assistance program for families with demonstrated need. |

Q. How many openings do you have in the high school for next year? A. There are 150 slots for each grade in high school. This means we will accept up to 150 for 10th grade also, we currently have 101 students in 9th grade. |
